Update ugly rusty floor registers with a bit of elbow grease and spray paint. Yes, spray paint and my favorite go to is Rustoleum’s Hammered spray paint. For budget friendly updates and makeovers, spray paint is your friend! New floor registers are around $15 a piece and that can be pricey if you have more than 1 to replace. For approximately $10 you can buy a can of primer and a can of color and do at least 6 if not up to 10 floor registers.
To update my ugly rusty floor registers after I put in the new laminate floor, I used Rustoleum’s Hammered spray paint in black. I use the hammered spray paint because any flaws in the piece I am painting is somewhat camouflaged by the color variation. As you can see from the picture, the registers look amazing and compliment the floor instead of detract.
You can spray paint any metal register after you clean them (and sand them lightly if they are really rusty). I did 6 floor registers and saved roughly $75 – $6 for the can of Hammered and a can of primer (at The Home Depot). You can use other spray paint (I am not paid or sponsored to recommend Rustoleum). However, from my years of experience spray painting light fixtures, towel bars, and tons of other things I have found that Rustoleum 2x spray and Hammered are my go to cans to update and cover up ‘ugly’. I spray 2- 3 light coats on my piece to avoid any runs or mishaps.
Thank you for stopping by. Have fun and the one thing I love about spray paint? If you do not like the way it looks, buy another can and spray it again!
Keeping it real, creating, and inspiring!
